NEIGHBOURHOOD IN FOCUS: YARROW.

Steeped in history and tucked away in a quiet agricultural corner of Chilliwack, the Yarrow neighbourhood is a great place to live or visit if you love a small-town, community oriented vibe.

If you’re looking for an easygoing neighbourhood to call home without straying too far from a city centre, Yarrow might just be the place for you. Nestled in between Abbotsford and Chilliwack, it also makes for a great day trip for those who live in either city!

Learn

Today, Yarrow is a great place to live and visit. But this neighbourhood’s past makes its present even more interesting.

Yarrow is located on the territory of the Sumas and Chilliwack tribes of the Stó:lō and Tzeachten Salish First Nations, who inhabited and cared for the land for many, many generations. The land that Yarrow currently sits on was actually underneath the Sumas Lake until the 1920s, when the Province drained it to make room for settler farmers.

The town was then established by Russian Mennonite families who had fled hardship during The War To End All Wars in Europe.

Visit Yarrow Pioneer Park and check out the educational installations to learn more about the history of the area.

Experience

Yarrow is a tight-knit community, and with that comes a variety of fun community events that welcome and connect locals and tourists alike.

Attend the annual Yarrow Days in the summer at Yarrow Pioneer Park to get together with the community for family-friendly activities, events, and festivities! In the winter, Yarrow hosts a Santa Breakfast for local families to enjoy together. The community also puts on community suppers throughout the year.
